What is Hip Hop Karaoke (HHK) all about?

Well first off, do you love hip hop? You can't get enough of the beats? Or do you miss the classic tracks that have made hip hop into what it is today? Well that is really what HHK is all about…The Love of Hip Hop! We've created an experience like no other for you tobe a headlining act and be a star for the night (well at least for about three minutes)! If you've ever wanted the chance to rhyme your favorite hip-hop joint on stage in front of a cheering crowd now is your chance.

Hip Hop Karaoke is a monthly music event that lets rock the stage with full back up including a DJ, hypeman, the crowd and the original hip hop instrumental track to show if you have the skills to "move the crowd"on one of hundreds of classic and current hip-hop favorites.

Can anyone get on stage?

Heck yes. We welcome every shape, color or size to get on stage. The more people that get on stage the better the experience will be. You can even check out our song list ahead of time on this site to check out the songs ahead of time.

How do I sign up to get on stage?

At the event there will be a sign-in period where you pick the track you want to perform, get a copy of the lyrics (if you need them), and wait for your name to be called. Then the stage is yours. There will be a limited amount of performance slots available. Performers will be chosen on a first come, first served, so get there early so you can get a slot!

Can I perform with someone else or with a group?

Yeah. If you think you need a crew to perform a Wu-Tang Clan song or Method Man and Mary-J Blige's "You're all I Need", then get em' all on stage!

I have my own song that I would like to perform at HHK can I perform it?

Sorry but no. HHK performances are limited to the songs that appear on our song list. HHK is NOT an open-mic night. However if you would like to perform an artist's song that doesn't appear on our list and have the instrumental music for it, email it to us for approval five days prior to the event at tramaine@tgainesent.com. You will not be able to do this the night of the event.

Where is my jam? There are a few songs I thought would be on the list but are not. Why is that?

There are a couple main reasons why your favorite song may not be on the Hip Hop Karaoke track list. First we designed HHK performances to be based on the original instrumental version of the song. These versions are usually found on the B-side of 12" vinyl records. It can be difficult (sometimes impossible) and expensive (vinyl costs more money) to track down the original instrumental version for certain songs. For example, we'd LOVE to add "Rock the Bells" to the song list, but have not been able to find the correct instrumental version. Also, not all good hip hop songs are good for karaoke performances. The songs that we add to our list meet a certain criteria including popularity, content, & song length in order to make Hip Hop Karaoke the best experience it can be. We don't want you to get booed off the stage (of course no booing is allowed at HHK) so we have chosen what we know are the best performance based songs. We are constantly trying to improve and grow our list and will continue to do so as we find new songs. We are also interested in what you want to hear so if you have a suggestion for a song you think should be added to the list, email us your suggestions to tramaine@tgainesent.com.
